My goal isn't to tell you who to be. It's to help you figure out what actually matters to you — and build a path toward it.

About Me

I'm Terence To MSW RSW, a Registered Social Worker and psychotherapist based in Mississauga with over 7 years of clinical experience. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, OCD, depression, relationship difficulties, and pornography addiction — using evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness-Based methods.

I offer in-person therapy at my Mississauga office in Meadowvale, and virtual sessions to clients anywhere in Ontario.

You Deserve Therapy That Actually Fits Your Life

Most people who reach out for therapy have already spent a long time trying to figure things out on their own. They've read the books, tried the breathing exercises, maybe even talked to friends or family about it. And still something isn't shifting.

That's usually not a willpower problem. It's a framework problem. The way you've been approaching the struggle — fighting it, avoiding it, waiting for it to pass — isn't working. What's needed is a different way of relating to what's happening inside you, and a clearer sense of what you actually want your life to look like.

That's the work I do at Flowing Mind Therapy.

Why I Became a Therapist

I didn't come to this work from the outside looking in.

Growing up as an Asian man in Canada, I spent a significant part of my life navigating the gap between the expectations of my cultural background and what I actually wanted for myself. The pressure to meet certain milestones — career, relationships, family — was real and constant. And underneath it was a quieter, harder question: what do I actually want? Who do I actually want to be?

That tension between external expectations and internal truth is something I see in my clients regularly. It shows up differently depending on background, family, culture, and circumstance — but the core experience is often the same. Feeling like you're living for someone else's version of your life, and not quite knowing how to find your own.

Therapy gave me a framework for that. ACT in particular gave me language for something I'd been trying to figure out intuitively for years — that the goal isn't to silence the difficult thoughts and feelings, but to stop letting them be the ones in charge. I bring that understanding into every session I run.

I work with clients the way I'd want to be worked with — honestly, without judgment, and with a genuine focus on what matters to them, not what I think should matter.

Who I Work With

I work with adult individuals — in-person in Mississauga and virtually across Ontario. My clients are typically people who have been dealing with something for a while and are ready to approach it differently. They're not necessarily in crisis. They're just tired of the same patterns and want something to actually change.

Many of my clients are navigating the gap between the life they're living and the life they want — whether that's shaped by anxiety, difficult relationships, low mood, compulsive behaviour, or the quieter pressure of not quite knowing what they want or who they want to be.

If that sounds like you, we'll probably work well together.

How I Work

Every client is different. The frameworks I use are evidence-based — but how I apply them is always shaped by the specific person in front of me, what they're dealing with, and what they actually want from therapy.

That said, a few things stay consistent across all my work:

Honesty over comfort

I'm not here to validate everything you're doing. If something isn't serving you, I'll say so — respectfully and directly.

Practical, not theoretical

Therapy should change how you live outside the session, not just how you feel inside it. We work on skills and strategies that hold up in real life.

Your values, not mine

I don't have a view on what the right life looks like for you. My job is to help you figure out what you actually want — and remove what's getting in the way.

No judgment

Whatever brings you in — anxiety, OCD, depression, pornography use, relationship difficulties — I've heard it, and I approach it without judgment or a moral agenda.

Collaboration

You're the expert on your own life. I bring the clinical tools and structure. Together, we build something that actually fits.

Therapy Approaches I Use:

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Anxiety, OCD, depression, pornography addiction, and any pattern where avoidance or struggle is keeping you stuck.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Identifying and shifting thought patterns that are driving unhelpful behaviour across a range of presenting issues.

Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)

OCD specifically — one of the most evidence-supported approaches for breaking the compulsive cycle.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT)

Building present-moment awareness to interrupt automatic patterns of thinking and feeling.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Motivational Interviewing

Ambivalence about change — helping clients move toward commitment when they're unsure.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Goal-oriented work with clients who have specific, defined objectives.

Strength-Based Approach

Identifying and building on existing client strengths and resources throughout the process.
